Driven by a deep passion for biotechnology and a relentless pursuit of creative innovation, D. S. Causey has dedicated his career to expanding the boundaries of traditional biotech research and development. With a vision to create an entirely new commercial and consumer market for biotech-based products and services, he founded LEGACY Biotheoretics, a pioneering venture poised to redefine the industry's landscape.

Through LEGACY, Mr. Causey envisions a paradigm shift in how biotechnology is perceived—both by professionals and the public—transforming it from a specialized field into an accessible and impactful force in everyday life.

Cody is Scott’s founding partner and the Chief Public Affairs and Bioethics Officer for LEGACY. Cody is an emerging scholar and leader in bioethics, clinical ethics, and research ethics. Cody is currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Ethics and Clinical Ethicist, the Managing Editor for the academic journal, Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics, and a contract bioethicist.

 

Cody's role is to design the bioethical oversight and public engagement architecture for LEGACY’s boundary-pushing research and platforms. In doing so, Cody’s goal is to ensure that all LEGACY’s initiatives remain within ethical limits, contribute to the promotion of human lives and leisure, advance ecological stewardship, and garner public interest and support.  

 

By taking every precaution – to other human beings, to other non-human species, and to the environment – Cody is motivated to ensure that LEGACY establishes durable professional and societal license and support to operate in such transformative and highly scrutinized domains as those associated with new frontiers in synthetic biology and Legacy’s pioneering consumer biologics.

Jeff is a Co-Founder, General Partner, and the Chief Financial Officer for LEGACY. With over 20 years of experience across investment banking, executive leadership, and financial and operational management, Mr. Baptie brings a deep understanding of both the strategic and tactical sides of business. His background includes managing M&A transactions on both the buy and sell side, leading financial planning and analysis, building robust revenue and pricing strategies, managing financial/accounting teams and overseeing banking and legal relationships.

Jeff has worked across multiple industries and thrives in fast-paced, creative environments. Whether in the boardroom or the lunchroom, Mr. Baptie values collaboration, clarity, and curiosity, and is always focused on helping businesses grow with financial discipline and operational insight.

Scott is a Co-Founder, General Partner, and the Chief Legal Officer for LEGACY. Scott is a senior legal executive with over 25 years of experience in executive legal counsel for global breakthrough consumer‑facing biotechnologies. His areas of specialization include IP protection, regulatory navigation, corporate governance, commercial strategy, privacy and data use, litigation strategy, enterprise risk management, commercial dealmaking, partnering legal strategy with R&D and operations, and product-risk strategy. 

 

Notably, Scott has served as a key legal resource for protecting GloFish and other engineered living organisms associated with agricultural biotechnology for companies such as Cargill. Scott has also built and led legal functions in highly regulated environments as companies move from conceptualization to commercialization. 

 

Scott brings his expertise with highly regulated fields where scientific ambition intersects with complex oversight, public scrutiny, and multi‑agency regulation to provide the legal architecture to not just support Legacy, but to accelerate the company into the future of consumer biotechnology.
